Thanks to those who hated me; you made me stronger.
Thanks to those who loved me; you made my heart fonder.

Twenty One & Full of Fun

Why do we celebrate birthdays? Henri J. M. Nouwen has a very good reason you might agree with, "Celebrating a birthday is exalting life and being glad for it. On a birthday, we do not say: 'Thanks for what you did, or said, or accomplished.' No, we say: 'Thank you for being born and being among us.' Celebrating a birthday reminds us of the goodness of life."

1. Our birthdays are feathers in the broad wing of time.

2. Birthdays are good for you. Statistics show that the people who have the most live the longest.

4. And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.

6. Some people, no matter how old they get, never lose their beauty - they merely move it from their faces into their hearts.

8. We know we're getting old when the only thing we want for our birthday is not to be reminded of it.

9. No matter how you choose to see it, birthdays are a great opportunity to have a few laughs and make peace with getting older.

11. All the world is birthday cake, so take a piece, but not too much.

13. Your life is a gift from the Creator. Your gift back to the Creator is what you do with your life

16. When a man is tired of life on his 21st birthday it indicates that he is rather tired of something in himself.

18. There was a star danced, and under that was I born.

21. Finally 21, and legally able to do everything I've been doing since 15.

Being born was great for me,
Though I can’t recall the chore,
But every year I’m pleased to see,
That it’s me they all adore.

My mom and dad stay close to me;
They claim to know me well;
They’re proud to know a celebrity,
And me, I know they’re swell.

They celebrate, they laugh and sing,
And gifts on me they shower;
I must have done a wondrous thing,
My birthday cries, BABY POWER!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!! :)

PS: Thought of collecting 21 Birthday quotes so as to symbolize my birthday. But sad, me, Google threw tantrums in its search. Visitors are requested to pour in their gifts (either in the form of cash or cash exchangeable items) rather than wishing in my comments section :P

Thanks!! Keep Visiting!!

Rantings of a ANTI- RAKH(i)STAR

Day comes and day goes. But for me it is not just the matter of 24 hours but the life which l am living just because of you. I still can't forget the day when no one came for my help but you gave your hand and let my all worries goes off. I have read a story that there was a monster who wanted to engulf a girl but suddenly god sent an angel for rescuing her. He gave his hand and took out the petrified girl from the deep pit. You were my angel who saved me. I don't need any occasion to show my gratefulness towards you because every moment of my life is a blessing of yours. I don't want to beautify my words to make myself better than others. Because emotions, feelings come direct from heart only for those people whom we love truly and these should be describe straightforwardly. These are my pure emotions which are just for you. You are always with me. I really love you.

Your's sister
Sandhya

Sob! Sob! Just like you, after reading the first few lines, I thought it would be a Love letter. But, there is something called FATE! And that’s how it played its game on Raksha Bandan. They are two Rakhis that scare and drive me mad; the first got engaged recently in Rakhi ka Swayamwar and the other that gives me headache every year. The festival is marked by the tying of a Rakhi or holy thread by the sister on the wrist of her brother. The elder brother in return offers a gift to his sister and vows to look after her same while an elder sister returns offers to her younger brother. It is one of the worst festivals in India. I want a BAN on this festival not to celebrate in public. For a DAIRY MILK, 5 STAR, PERK all beautiful girls tie Rakhi in our hands metaphorically hanging us to death in a small rope. If you want chocolates, ask me. But please don’t tie Rakhi.

Quit playing games with my heart

Before you tear us apart

Quit playing games with my heart

I should've know from the start

How is the poem? Nice!! Thanks to BACKSTREET BOYS who composed a beautiful tune for my LYRICS. But Damn, didn't give credits to me! At least keep your brother hood and sisterhood at home and not to every other guy in work place, school, college etc. If you want to tie Rakhi, do it to unsightly Lancelot but don’t dig at me. That too for a guy who is as hot as Ryan Reynolds, Eyes like RANBIR KAPOOR, Nose like JOHNNY DEEP, Cheeks like ORLANDO BLOOM, Smile like SHAH RUKH KHAN, Abs like JOHN ABRAHAM!! And if you say you want only good-looking guys as brothers, again I opt out. You have Kanagu, Arv, Narayanan, Karthick. They have umpteen girl-friends and I’m still in the starting stages of SINGLETON. If all the girls tie Rakhi to me and call me brother, better arrange me tickets for United Kingdom, USA and a WORLD TOUR as I need to search girls there. (I pray to god that they should be ignorant of Raksha Bandhan)

Why can't you be just friends? Why you need to be sister?? I can't comprehend that thought at all. I’m ready to accept your Rakhi under the condition that you should transfer at least 20% of their family assets to my name since I’m her brother. Will she?? How can we stop this? Once if news starts spreading like DEJECTED BROTHER’s GIFT ON RAKHI: GIRL’s WRIST BROKEN as headlines, it will create Goosebumps among girls and they’ll fear to tie Rakhi.

Since the author is afraid that he may be arrested either for EVE TEASING or his detractors wouldn’t find enough space at his hand for tying RAKHI, for security reasons, he is absconding in advance and will be off for a while until things return to normal. His mobile, G-Talk, Yahoo, Twitter accounts are declared Holiday tomorrow and all the Proposals will be REJECTED*. The author announces in ADVANCE he will be available for 24 hours on February 14 and all the proposals will be ACCEPTED*

*- CONDITIONS APPLY.

PS: Happy Raksha Bandhan to all the POOR INNOCENT SOULS!!

THANKS!! KEEP VISITING!!

It Happened in their Life, Blimme :P

I’d conversed with many of my blogger friends and I have got each of their special consent for writing a post on the out of the ordinary moments that had occurred in their living. Since I'm amalgamating many incidents, one from a member's life, pardon me if the post is long; So much friends I've :P. If I’d not sought your permission, please give me now. If you are not ready to give, please I’ll use for this one post alone. So now let’s move to the fascinating episodes in my Blogger friend’s life.

Little Thoorika was sitting on a park bench munching on one candy bar after another. After the sixth one a man on the bench across from her said, "Daughter, you know eating all that candy isn't good for you. It will give you acne, rot your teeth, and make you fat."

Little Thoorika replied, "My grandfather lived to be 107 years old."

The man asked, "Did your grandfather eat 6 candy bars at a time?"

Little Thoorika answered, "No, he minded his own business!"

There was once a young man who, in his youth, professed his desire to become a great writer.

When asked to define "Great" he said,

"I want to write stuff that the whole world will read, stuff that people will react to on a truly emotional level, stuff that will make them scream, cry, howl in pain and anger!"

He now works for Microsoft, writing error messages and his name is VIJAY

Swati went to an eye specialist to get her eyes tested and asked, “Doctor, will I be able to read TAMIL after wearing glasses?"

"Yes, of course", said the doctor, "why not!"

"Oh! How nice it would be”, said Swathi with joy, "My Knowledge in Tamil is null for so long. I don’t need to expect Karthik to teach me anymore”

Rainbow Karthik once proposed to a woman. She said “yes only if you bring me a pair of crocodile boots.”

He set off to Africa and disappeared. Finally a search has been made, they found him hunting crocodiles and watched him killing a huge one.

He walked over the reptile, checked its legs and angrily exclaims "71st and *again* barefeet!"

Blue Cross Members pardon him!!

PJ went with her binoculars to a marriage

Because she was going to see a distant relative of her...

Once Vinnie was travelling on a train. She felt sleepy so she gave the guy sitting opposite her on the train 50 rupees to wake her up when the station arrived. This guy was a barber, and he felt that for 50rupees, Vinnie deserved more service. So, when she fell asleep, the barber quietly trimmed her brows and cut her hair short, which she was denied in most of the beauty parlors. When the station arrived, Vinnie was woken up, and she went home. Reaching home, she went to wash her face, and suddenly screamed when she saw the mirror. Said her mom “What’s the matter?" Replied she "The cheat on the train has taken my 50 rupees and woken up someone else"

Poor Vinnie and her memory!!

G3, Saranya and Wolfie are called upon to test a lie detector.

G3 says: "I think I can work for 15 hours in office"

BUZZZZZZ goes the lie detector. "Ok", she says, "1 hour". And the machine is silent.

Saranya says: "I think I can eat 15 hamburgers". BUZZZZZZ goes the lie detector. "All right, 4 hamburgers". And the machine's silent.

Wolfie says: "I think...” BUZZZZZZ goes the machine.

Arc, Tara, Gayathri, Ramya and Swathi Paul go on a camping trip. After a good dinner, they retire for the night, and go to sleep.

Some hours later, Swathi Paul woke up and nudges Arc. “Arc, look up at the sky and tell me what you see.”

“I see millions and millions of stars, Swathi” replies Arc.

“And what do you deduce from that?”

They ponder for a minute.

“Astrologically, I observe that Saturn is in Leo.” Says Arc

“Horologically, I deduce that the time is approximately a quarter past three.” Says Tara

“Meteorologically, I suspect that we will have a beautiful day tomorrow.” Says Gayathri

“Theologically, I can see that God is all powerful, and that we are a small and insignificant part of the universe.” Says Ramya

Swathi Paul is silent for a moment.

“You idiots!” she says. “Someone has stolen our tent”

Shanki
walks into a bar with this really great shirt on. The bartender goes, "Where'd you get the great shirt mate?" He replies, "Phantom of Avalon" Kake walks into the bar with really good pants on and the bartender goes "Where'd you get the great pants mate?" He replies, "Phantom Of Avalon” Apocalypse walks into the bar with really great shoes and sock on. The bartender goes, "Where'd you get the great shoes and socks mate?" He replies, "Phantom Of Avalon" Then a guy runs in naked and the bartender goes, "Look Who the hell are you mate?" And the naked guy says, "I'm Lancelot, Phantom of Avalon!"

And the last thing, my friend Lancelot, without whom, I wouldn’t have been here writing this post, recollecting all the events of my blogger friend.

Statutory warning: 18+, Gross

Chriz, I and Lancelot were walking on a dark alley in search of our girl friend. Before the thoughts could arise in your mind, Yeah! We three loved the same girl. In the midway we were rounded by robbers at knife point.

“I give each one of you a chance. If you could answer all your questions, you’ll be robbed and shot down. At least one succeeds in making us answer wrong; we’ll leave you without a scratch added to handing over all those we have robbed today”

And he opened his bag which was brimming over with gold and cashes.

I came forward first.

“Tell me the number of girl friends I’d encountered?”

He was good in legilimency (reading one’s mind by exploring feelings and memories)

"1456, +3, while you turned into the alley."

“Right” and they took my things, a guy now holding me at knife-point.

Chriz came next.

“Tell me the number of under wears I lost?”

He gave a stinking look

"211, +1 the one you lost today morning while drying it"

“Right” and they took his belongings, another guy holding him at knife point.

Lance was our last hope. We were unsure what he’ll do now. Will he save us?? But the guy was a great Legimens.

“Could you bring me the chair that is lying there?”

They brought the chair.

“Could you put six holes in this chair?”

A guy shot six holes, three in two rows, in the chair with his gun.

“Thanks!”

Lance sat on the chair and let out a big, loud FART.

All shut their noses.

“Could you find from which one of the holes the fart escaped first?”

He threw in a deep examination, and cleared his throat and nose saying

“The second hole in first row”

“Wrong!! It was from my ASSHOLE” and we were saved.

Thank you Lance!! I’m so grateful to you!! I don’t know how to reimburse you for this, I’ll do it twice than that you’d done for me. I wasn’t referring in FART content, you wicked fellas : x

Enter the Yetcha Dragon

I’d always love to grow a dragon. Stop giggling hypocritical Muggles (non-magical peoples) because you believe dragons are only a myth. The Dragon is the luckiest, most dominant coupled with health, strength, harmony and good fortune. To prevent them from being seen by Muggles, and to protect them from poaching, dragons are kept in dragon reserves around the world, most of which are far from human habitation and so you haven’t seen them.

For my birthday, I asked my dad, I need a dragon as my pet. But he strongly turned down by wish saying Dragons cannot be domesticated and that’s what Ministry says.

THUD!!

The door opened with a bang and there stood a man… No No… monster who was almost twice as tall as a normal man and at least five times as wide. He looked simply too big to be allowed; beard hid most of his face; he had hands the size of dustbin lids. His name was Phantom Lancelot, the great grandson of Rubeus Hagrid, who was the friend of Harry Potter, the famous wizard. He informed us that he comes from Hogwarts and as per the Minister of Magic, Ronald Weasley’s special orders; I was allowed to grow a dragon and he had come to pick me to DRAGON STORE at PENTAGON ALLEY. If a wizard or witch needs something, chances are that it can be found in PENTAGON ALLEY.

Once we reached there through POO NETWORK (Travelling through WATER), I was informed that I’ll be giving a dragon which will grow only up to 6 six feet, 5 times lesser than their original size. So it’ll be like a blown-up dragon doll for me. When I was a kid I tried to statues of dragons into real dragons by using transfiguration spells, which can then be controlled by the caster. But since I was too young, the spell never worked. (You need to be a complete wizard if you want the spell to work)

Since Lancelot warned me not to take a Hungarian Horntail, I got a glimpse of it while the shop-owner was showing me the dragon kids. It was black and being more lizard-like having yellow eyes with slit pupils (like a cat). Along their tails are bronze-colored spikes every few inches. Taken aback by the vicious look, I was shown Norwegian Ridgeback, a rare species of dragon; black with orange eyes and seems that their bites are mildly poisonous, causing swelling and green discolouration. I wondered whether Lancelot was bitten by this dragon, making him look huge and swollen. Not impressed as it was not glamorous, I moved to Common Welsh Green, which had smooth green scales and can breathe fire. But since a beautiful looking blonde Fleur Delacour Jr. had booked it before, I gave a deep sigh and punched the dragon’s cheek (as it is gonna get kisses from her) I turned town Chinese Fireball as it had fringe of gold spikes around the face and looked red. How can I pinch the dragon’s cheek??

I was dejected and buried my dreams of bringing a DRAGON PET; then something wet was felt at my back. I turned to see, surprised by the sight a little dragon spitting water from its mouth instead of Fire. I thought first, it must be a fountain but no... It is not... A real dragon. The owner said it is a new breed and yet to be named. It had an innocent look and glittering like a white crystal. Since it was spitting water, Lancelot named it as YETCHA DRAGON and I too did like the name. Then the dragon became one of my close friends. During summer, whenever there was a water scarcity, our YD saved us by sputtering POTS of water. Trust me, once if you try it out, you won’t even think about AQUAFINA, BISLERI. This is the purest and heavenly form of water. (Her rivals MOCHA DRAGON- SUSAN, PIZZA DRAGON-KALPANA, SAMOSA DRAGON- SAMYUKTA from neighborhood says the water (Yetcha) she spits, actually is while she drools at looking young guys. This was said by Kake, who can interpret Dragon language and he holds a PhD in it)

We had to feed a bucket of brandy mixed with chicken blood every half hour and so we shifted our house near a Liquor store. YD is skilled in seeking inside without grabbing anyone’s attention and sneaks out unnoticed. We like to go for a NIGHT RIDE, flying across the skies and she sprays water at the stars and clouds. She once saved our vault from being broken by robbers and drove them out. Never the robbers set their foot in our streets again. Dragon nails does work, and that it gives your brain a boost, making you cunning for a few hours; so once I tried to cut a piece from YD (she loves to grow nails; surprised to see even Female dragons grow long nails and applying nail-polish like humans) to which she responded appropriately at my face. The scars have disappeared but not the scares.

Moral: Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus, which is Latin for, Never tickle a sleeping dragon.

The question is “Why am I here saying about my dragon?” Today is the birthday of our YD and I and Lancelot take mammoth happiness (like his size) in wishing her a great and memorable birthday. This post is not only to shower our wishes and give you an idea about our affection for her, but also to get SNACKS, COLAS, SAMOSAS, and CHAT ITEMS from her in the form of TREAT (can’t expect a glass of brandy from Yetcha Dragon and if you ask her, remember her response at my face) So here comes our trade mark dialog: MUMMY!! DADDY!! 4 DAYS!! NO FOOD!!

Say JAI YETCHA DRAGON and wish in my comment section. Else you will be FIRED… ergg… Sorry!! WATERED!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY YETCHA DRAGON @ SWATHI PAUL!!

THANKS!!! KEEP VISITING!!!

OSC-ARR Gives JOY HO

Let me count the number of political parties in India, Number of medals India got at Olympics and number of times I’ve heard India’s name at the Oscars? For the first, by the time I count some ten parties, there would be three new parties formed in the name of caste. Second one, a bit easy but have to google a few and third, Bhanu Athaiya got Costume design award in 1982 for Richard Attenborough’s historical film “Gandhi”. Satyajit Ray was awarded an honorary Oscar for his contribution to world cinema in 1992, just weeks before his death. Apurva Shah (Ratatouille) and Umesh Shukla (Titanic), special effects wizards from India, went on to win the Oscar. Today, A.R.Rahman is the face of India at the Oscars. At the 81st Academy Awards, A. R. Rahman has won a double Oscar — one for Best Original Score for “Slumdog Millionaire” and the other for Best Song for the title track “Jai Ho”, sharing it with lyricist Gulzar — and Resul Pookutty has won it for sound mixing. The rise of the humble Chennaiite who made his way to the grand Red Carpet has certainly been awe-inspiring.

The shy, nervous Dilip Kumar who never spoke, the boy who never looked up, the boy who used to turn out the lights before he sang in front of anyone, had morphed into an international star. He always knew he wanted to be famous. He dreamt — and told his friends too — that he wanted his music to be played all over the world. But it was a dream that took a long time to realize. As a young boy of 11, Rahman, then known as Dilip Kumar, saw his father R K Sekhar, a music arranger and composer, died of cancer. He didn't have time to mourn though, he had to pick up from where his father had left off and earn for the family of five. While his three sisters focused on academics, the young Dilip never managed to give books enough time. In the words of his teachers in Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan, the school he went to until the ninth grade, "He managed to scrape through.''

The young ARR spent all his time after school at the recording studio, playing keyboards for composers (having got the first set of job offers thanks to the goodwill of his father). There were days when his mother would be seen waiting for him outside school in the morning, uniform and breakfast in hand, according to his teachers. A studio van would drop off the tired Dilip who would be fed and changed by his mother before being rushed to school. The only reason the school remembers him is that during all the school programmes they needed him to play the keyboard — he was the best in school. He would also be called out of the classroom whenever there was a recording because his family simply could not afford to say no.

ARR had finally to drop out of Padma Seshadri in the ninth grade, and then out of school altogether, midway through class XI because he could not cope with both his studies and work. "When I was a teenager, I was spending most of my time with 50-year-olds and 60-year-olds. They were very sweet people, yes. I felt I was one among them, it took a while to realise that I was actually much younger,'' says Rahman about his early life as a musician in the film industry when he played his keyboard for bigwigs of the Tamil industry such as Ilayaraja, M.S.Viswanathan and Ramesh Naidu’s orchestras and has accompanied many eminent musicians during their world tours. Deciding to equip himself with theoretical knowledge, he then took up exams at the Trinity College of London and received a certification in western classical music. It was then Rahman recognized the craving in him to compose.

As an 18 year old, ARR played with a band called ROOTS which included Drummer Shivamani. It later regrouped to form MAGIC, for a single performance. He went on to also be the producer-arranger of another band, Nemesis Avenue. Acquiring quite a bit of experience and expertise, he began to play as an arranger in the local private rock bands. Later, his shining talent started to take him places. In 1991, he opened his recording studio in Chennai and the opportunity-filled ad world was his first step into composition. Several jingles he composed attracted attention and acquired quick recognition among the public and then Maniratnam’s Roja offer came. From any movie buff’s perspective, Roja music was like a whiff of fresh air and it simply reversed the trends that prevailed till then in the field of Tamil cinema. Cinema music took a swift turn from thereon. And for Rahman, a string of successful movie albums followed. Lagaan, Bombay, Karuthamma, Indira are a few among the many.

What is so special about the Rahman style? Rahman’s music is about versatility. His knowledge of music is astounding. His fingers literally dance on the piano. His style is an enthralling combination of latest technology and the rich, indigenous nuances of music. In some of his compositions, his technical aspects show, in some, the musical aspects show. But from ordinary listeners to the contemporary, avant-garde aficionados, everybody could easily immerse themselves in the sweet-sounding compositions and Rahman’s musicality got well-communicated. What else can gauge a musician’s reach? Soon, his glory travelled to Hollywood and Rahman composed music for many cross-over and Hollywood productions; Shekar Kapoor’s Elizabeth, The Golden Age is a remarkable among the lot.

A lot has changed in A R Rahman's life over the years in terms of his personality as well as his music, but the two most important aspects of his life remain constant — God and his mother. He doesn't just say it every time he is on stage because it seems like the right thing to say. He truly believes that the first is the driving force in his life, the reason he is who he is. The second, quite simply, is the reason he is where he is.

"There is a dialogue from an old Hindi film, ’Mere paas ma hai’ - which means I have nothing but a mother. My mother is here, I have her blessings. I am glad she could be here" He ended the acceptance speech by saying in Tamil, Ella Pughazhum Eraivanukke (எல்லா புகழும் இறைவனுக்கே), his most common prelude to all his public speeches which means "All my success and achievements are dedicated to God, God is great."

Rahman is known to say these words of gratitude to God after winning every award. Looking at his achievement and his whole journey, it truly looks like God and his constant benediction has been with him, forever.  I think it’s his humbleness that has taken him to such great heights. Rahman’s victory is a culmination of years of hard work and humility. I feel this is just the beginning. Hopefully, more talent from here will strive for such recognition in the years to come.

And is the film, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE worth of EIGHT OSCARS? Watch for Mr.Critic’s take in next post!!

THANKS!!! KEEP VISITING!!!
