BOLT- LOLing VOLT

Why we love superheroes despite knowing they are not real? Because all over this planet, there are people who feel like they can't. Like a little boy who once spent his days reading Harry Potter, dreaming of the day when he, too, would play Quidditch and save the wizardry world from danger and be told, "You did it. You did it, Karthik. You saved the day." We need a hero; someone who, no matter what the odds, will do what's right. We need a hero to tell them that sometimes the impossible can become possible if you're awesome! And that’s what BOLT is all about.

This film is about the bonds of friendship between Bolt, a "super dog" and Penny, a young actress. Bolt, a White Shepherd has lived his whole life on the set of his action TV show in which he portrays a “SUPER DOG”. He believes he has superpowers and as per the TV show script, is always on the looking out to stop the made-up 'green-eyed' villain from getting hold of Penny. After filming completes for the latest episode where Penny has been kidnapped by the television villain, Bolt escapes from his on-set trailer mistakenly believing it and runs in searching for Penny. He realizes that he doesn't have superpowers and that the show is not real when he takes a cross-country trek with a jaded, mangy cat, Mittens and a TV-obsessed weird hamster, Rhino, who happens to his big-time fan. A great idea for a movie, isn’t it?

Bolt was fun, didn't have any 'dull' spots, Further, the script is well structured and built up, with a solid dramaturgy and a captivating narration, right from the beginning. The starting, expressed professionally, we see Bolt as he is in the TV Show to understand his world. Seriously, that was made of awesome. The scene was action packed and full of excitement. Don’t miss those first 10 minutes.

The effects in this movie are mind-boggling. Think, few of the Disney classics were from the brains of PIXAR and this one has been made after PIXAR left him, the film did not disappoint on any level and a rare treat with terrific animation. I presume you could say the voice overs are great. John Travolta (Bolt) and Miley Cyrus (Penny) certainly did a good job. Mittens the cat, voiced excellently by Susie Essman and Laughter was pretty consistent; some of the best lines in the movie come from Rhino the hamster. Few were I EAT DANGER FOR BREAKFAST, RING! RING! WHO IS IT? DESTINY; I”VE BEEN EXPECTING YOUR CALL. And then there is slim and interesting Manager of Penny who says LETS PUT A PIN IN IT! BOOP!

The film had some exciting moments but the biggest plus is it had heart. On the travel with Mittens and Rhino, when BOLT discovers about himself, was full of warmth and the track BARKING AT THE MOON that follows it, worked very well. I liked the music in the film which is calming and gels with the film. But it was at the scene near the end, the music added with the heart of Bolt did bring a tear to my eye, and when a movie is able to affect me like this, something I don’t think any other animated film has ever done, Mr. Critic declares it a clear winner.

This movie deserved to win some big-time awards. The only reason this did not happen because the brilliance of Wall-E overshadowed this film. I personally place this, a step ahead of Wall-E, finding a place in my DVD library. If you love your pet or if you loved to own a pet but couldn’t, then this film is a must-watch for you. Grab a DVD at nearby store, or mail me for the torrent. This is one movie where you feel got more than our bucks' worth.

Mr. Critic 5-Star: ****1/2

@karthik
u cant compare this flick to wall-e... though both are animation the story line is entirely different..u can compare this with kung fu panda... even cars had great graphics and storyline but lost to happy feet.. each animation flick is worth watching and involves great hardship but everything cant be awarded... watever, this one is a good film too...
